The Bhatti GI Monument Sign variance was approved at Planning Commission on October 25, 2023.

Rodney Hintz, the applicant, is requesting an eight-foot variance from Edina City Code section 36-1656 that requires a monument sign to have a minimum setback of twenty feet from the traveled portion of the road. The applicant previously was granted a variance for this sign allowing the monument sign on the north side of the property to be placed fourteen feet six inches from the curb. The current variance request is due to utility conflicts. The requested twelve-foot setback will avoid underground utility conflicts.

The previous variance request was granted for this sign on April 12, 2023.

Public Input- 6500 Barrie Road

The City of Edina offers several ways for people to provide input on development projects. Regardless of the method, all public input is considered, so people need to use only one method.

Instructions for leaving a public comment below:

  • Your comment will be available to Planning Commission, City Council, staff and others to review immediately instead of waiting until the public hearing.
  • Your comment will be posted and publicly viewable as soon as you hit 'Submit'.
  • You will not be able to edit or remove your comment.
  • Please introduce yourself, your neighborhood and your thoughts about this project.
Example: Barbara Smith, The Heights. The project is two blocks from my home and my children would have to walk past it every day on their way to school. Please consider adding sidewalks to this project.

Other ways to provide comment:

1 - Leave a voicemail with your public input at 952-826-0377. Staff will submit the transcribed voicemail to Better Together Edina. (Available once project application is submitted)

2 - One public hearing will take place for variance requests in the City Hall Council Chambers, 4801 W. 50th St. Attend the meeting in person to give public input or watch the meeting live from home on Edina TV (Comcast Channels 813 or 16), Facebook(External link) or EdinaMN.gov/LiveMeetings(External link). This is John Pastor at 6405 Colony Way 1A. I have no objection to sign at 6500 Barrie Road as long as it's not placed in a spot where it would obstruct the view of oncoming cars. Thank you. (Voicemail received 10/17/23 at 11:05 AM. Transcribed by City Staff)

Hi my name is Kristen Gibbons. I live at 6475 Barrie Road. I understand that they are looking for a variance of 12 feet from the curb to put a monument sign and I'm calling to oppose that because the building already is like built way too close to the street and the sidewalks except on the east side and so it's already becoming you know kind of a block if you're coming down 65th Street and you want to take a ride or if you're going across Barrie Road you can hardly see around that corner already down the street. If you're looking to the south side and I'm also worried about where they're going to put snow because there's a lot of snow that piles up in that area during the winter and I think they need all of all of that 6 to 12 feet to put the snow up. They have a nice big sign on the South side of the building I think they could do the same thing on the North side of the building. Maybe put the monument sign in the front. I am opposed to having a monument constructed closer to the street on the North side. Thank you. (Voicemail received 10-16-23 at 5:31 PM. Transcribed by City Staff)

My name is Floy Sims and I live at 6433 Barrie Rd. I am concerned about the new sign variance interfering with the traffic on 65th and Barrie Road. I use that intersection almost everyday. Thank you very much. (Voicemail received 10-16-23 at 3:21 PM. Transcribed by City Staff.)
