swjepsenover 3 years agoImprove all the shoreline owned by the City on Melody Lake
In addition to the northwest part of Melody Lake by the bench, the city also owns lakeshore property as part of the park extending southeast. This is the main part of Melody Lake park and is accessible from the park entrance on Grove St. There are fallen trees in the lake that have never been attended to. Adding grasses and maintaining the shoreline would be a good ongoing plan for the entire park.

Stock the lake with fish and add a dock to create a neighborhood fishing spot

When we get a hard rain water rushes out of the storm drain like a waterfall. Bubbly eddies flow 100 yards down the lake stirring up a ton of sediment and turning the lake brown. Some kind of breakwater, jetty, or mini pond within a pond could really help.

My children saw the postcard about this project and asked that I please post about their strong desire to keep the big grassy hill area. During covid this is the main outdoor area our family uses to get some exercise outdoors. They love rolling down the hill and we were planning to sled there this winter. Rolling down a hill is excellent for children’s neurological development and helps develop eye tracking ability for reading and proprioception. A neurologist I know that said it’s one of the best ways for children to play! Large hills are not a park feature that is easy to find and one of the things we really enjoy about this particular park. The 30 ft restoration looks like it maintains this grassy field space— our family would strongly prefer that option.

I suspect the neighborhood kids would like a short dock to fish from. They will probably catch more plastic bags than fish, but it would be fun nevertheless.
