The City of Edina has been approached for the Edina Art Center to be a possible tenant within the newly proposed Hennepin County Southdale Library. The City of Edina Art Center opened in 1977 at its current location out of a home built in 1948. The center was expanded in the mid-1990-s and is currently only being operated as a registered program facility with limited use of the main floor. With identified building code deficiencies in 2019, the pottery areas remain closed. The City has completed both a program and space study analysis to determine possible options for art space that could include spaces for multiple art mediums and pottery for all ages. Hennepin County and the City are currently exploring options for locating an art center on the second floor of the new Southdale Library. Watch this site for next steps, updates, meeting notices and any City Council discussion on the proposed partnership with this project. |
