The York Avenue and Zenith Avenue seeded areas have already germinated and turf establishment has gone well so far. Residents can assist the turf establishment by watering their new seed and keeping leaves, debris and foot traffic off the seeded areas. The new seed should not be mowed until it reaches a height of six inches.

Seeding has been installed along York Avenue and Zenith Avenue and the contractor is required to water it for the first 90 days. While the contractor is responsible to establish the turf for these 90 days, your assistance during this period will help establish the turf more quickly. It is just as important to not over-water the new seed as it is to water the seed. Please refrain from disturbing the seeded areas and do not apply any fertilizers or herbicides this year.

Keeping the streets clear of parked cars allows the contractor to water the seeded areas more thoroughly and efficiently.

Please recall that West 58th Street is scheduled to be reconstructed between Xerxes and Wooddale Avenue in 2020. Therefore, a temporary bituminous curb will be placed adjacent to West 58th Street along intersecting streets. This temporary bituminous curb will be replaced with permanent concrete curb in 2020 during the West 58th Street project.

This week the contractor completed the sump drain installation on Abbott Avenue which allowed crews to begin preparing the road base for concrete curb and gutter. Curb and gutter installation began on July 19th and concrete apron installation is scheduled to begin on Monday, July 22nd.

The short holiday week became even shorter with the wet weather on Monday, July 1. Wet weather delayed concrete aprons and driveway installation. However, the contractor completed most of the Ewing Avenue driveways, installed water services on Chowen and Abbott Avenue, installed storm sewer on Abbott Avenue and bituminous driveways on York Avenue and Zenith Avenue.

If you are still on temporary water and have not been switched to the new water system please now call Cole with GF Jedlicki to schedule this work. His information can be found on the flyer that was left on your front door.

Aprons and concrete driveways on Ewing Avenue and Drew Avenue are scheduled for installation during the week of July 8th. Bituminous paving is tentatively scheduled for July 12th on Ewing Avenue and Drew Avenue.

During the week of July 8th, the contractor will begin reclaiming the pavement on Beard Avenue and West 59th Street. As shown in the video on the right side of this web page, the reclaiming process grinds up the existing pavement along with some of the gravel underneath the road to produce a suitable recycled material to use as the new road base. Removal of concrete curb and potentially the end of your driveway pavement will also likely occur.

The contractor will continue preparing the boulevard areas for topsoil on York and Zenith Avenue.

Sanitary sewer mains throughout the project area continue to be lined by HydroKleen.

Have a safe and happy Independence Day!
