The contractor will provide access to or from driveways but please be advised the crew may need up to 10 minutes to build a ramp to your driveway. If you need immediate access to or from your home, please wave to one of the contractors to get their attention. They are friendly and have been notified to ramp driveways where needed.

Please watch your front door for a notice to schedule this connection.

Gravel alley work is tentatively scheduled to begin on Monday, May 13th. During this work you may experience delays as you try to access your property from the alleys. If you will be leaving your home before 7am we recommend parking in the street in front of your house. If you have flexibility in your schedule just notify the contractor about 30 minutes prior to you needing to leave and they will work with you to make a path out of your property. You can flag down any of the contractors that will be working in your alley.

All schedules are weather dependent, and rain may occur on Monday, May 13th which may delay the work in the alley until dry weather returns.

Have a safe and happy Mother's Day!

  • Construction on Drew and Ewing Avenues, Gravel Alleys Ready to Begin

    Drew and Ewing Avenues

During the week of May 5, the contractor will begin reclaiming the pavement. As shown in the video on the right side of this web page, the reclaiming process grinds up the existing pavement along with some of the gravel underneath the road to produce a suitable recycled material to use as the new road base. The contractor will leave a portion of the asphalt in place to better maintain vehicle access during construction. Removal of concrete curb and potentially the end of your driveway pavement will also likely occur.

Following reclaiming, the contractor will then begin installing the temporary water supply system. This will allow us to replace the existing watermain and services with little disruption to your water supply. The contractor will need access to your basement to finalize this setup. You will be contacted by either a knock on the door or a notice on your front door by GF Jedlicki. They will be the contractor making the final connection to the temp water and later they will reconnect back to the watermain.

Parking restrictions will be in effect. There will be No Parking between the hours of 7 am to 9 pm, or when the contractor has noticeably left for the day.

    York and Zenith Avenues

On Thursday, May 2 the contractor will begin gravel alley grading work. Please watch your front door for notices as alley access between the hours of 7 am to 7 pm will likely be limited due to the nature of the work. Suitable parking locations will be provided in the notice.

The contractor has replaced most the new water services. Following completion, the contractor will connect houses to the new watermain and remove the temporary water system.

  • Watermain Installation

The new watermain is installed on York Avenue. The contractor will continue connecting the new watermain to the City of Edina system and installing hydrants. Next week the main will be pressure tested and tested for Minnesota Department of Health compliance. The contractor will also start to install the new water services to each house. After all tests come back within compliance the contractor will begin turning the new services on and removing the temporary water. This should begin in 7-10 days.

Today York Avenue was transformed into a constructions site. The contractor reclaimed the edges of York Avenue and Zenith Avenue, leaving a center strip for vehicles to travel down. The video shows the reclaiming machine working to turn the existing pavement into a material we can later use for the base of the new road. Click here to see the Reclaimer in action!

The curb and apron removal was also started along York Avenue and will continue with Zenith Avenue following shortly behind.

  • Week of April 15th

Even though the weather decided to give us a 2nd winter, construction is still on schedule.

Next week the contractor plans on reclaiming portions of York Ave and Zenith Ave. Reclaiming is a process of grinding the road into a gravel that will be used as a base under the new pavement. The center portion of the roadway will be left in place for a better drive surface. The ground up portion is able to be driven on but please attempt to drive on the remaining pavement when possible.

Crews will also begin connecting homes to the temporary water system...

If you don't schedule the connection, you will have a disruption in your water service.

Installation of the new watermain will begin on York Ave on Tuesday and Wednesday using a process known as pipebursting. The contractor will pull a new pipe through the old pipe and break the old pipe apart at the same time. This process saves time, resources, and money when compared to having to dig a new main along the entire length of the pipe.

I will continue to monitor traffic levels in the area with the France Ave closure. We have closed the routes through the neighborhood on Google and Waze to help alleviate some of the traffic. If traffic levels increase to much, we will discuss further options to help alleviate traffic cutting through the neighborhood.

This is a necessary exception to the working hours of the 7am start and is only scheduled for Thursday morning. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
