50th Street and Grange Rd Improvements

The City Council approval of a development proposal at 4917 Eden Avenue has provided an opportunity for improvements to the transportation system near City Hall. Phase 2 of those improvements is tentatively scheduled for construction in 2024. The overview graphic shows the concept along 50th Street and Grange Rd.

A detour route will be signed utilizing 50th St, Benton Avenue, and the West Frontage Road. Access to northbound Highway 100 and local residents and businesses will be maintained. Traffic exiting Highway 100 will be routed to 50th Street as right turns onto Grange Road will be prohibited.
Sidewalks will also be closed as it will not be safe to enter an active work zone. Please refrain from cutting through the active work zone. We continue to have problems with pedestrians and cyclist entering active work zones at other locations. This is not safe.
The closure is anticipated to last until the end of August.

The northbound highway 100 off-ramp will be open but traffic will be routed to Eden Avenue. Access to northbound highway 100 will be from 50th Street.

Look for a signed detour route utilizing 50th Street, Benton Avenue and the West Frontage Road. Access will continue to be provided to local residents and businesses along the East Frontage Road. There is a storm sewer crossing that needs replacement across Grange Road just north of the west City Hall entrance. The northbound highway 100 off ramp will be open but traffic will be directly south to Eden Avenue and detoured either east or west. Access to northbound highway 100 will be either from eastbound or westbound 50th Street. There will not be access from Grange Road to northbound highway 100 during this temporary work. The work is expected to last 2 weeks in order to install the new pipe and replace the concrete. Thanks

Willson Road will be closed south of Eden Avenue beginning May 8. Look for a signed detour route utilizing Eden Avenue, Benton Avenue and the West Frontage Road. The work that is anticipated in May includes relocations of private utilities. Installation of watermain, and concrete curb & gutter.

Staff is asking the City Council and HRA to approve contracts this week. A detailed construction schedule will be coming soon. Generally, Willson Rd south of Eden could be closed early May and the entire intersection closed early June after school is out for the summer. The project is required to be completed by the end of August before school starts in the fall. Thank you.

- Reduced Vehicle Speeds - traffic calming by narrowing lanes.
- Improved pedestrian facility - wide shared use trail.
- Fills a gap in the pedestrian network between Eden Avenue and 50th Street.

Road Closure and Detour Information
