Jess asked 7 months agoThe contractor continues to make progress. The wiring for the traffic signal and the new traffic signal should be completed early during the week of September 23. The final layer of paving is scheduled early in that same week. The contractor will be cleaning the site in anticipation of the Police Department's Open House on Thursday, September 26 from 5 - 7 pm. Come check out the open house and the new street. After the police event, the contractor will install street signs and pavement markings and open the street. We anticipate opening the street early during the week of September 30. Thanks for your patience with this project.

Is there a penalty for not finishing work when the construction firms promised? Isn’t THEIR poor engineering that has led to the delays on the 50th street project?
Swilli0521 asked 8 months agoThanks for the question. There are penalties for delay's when caused by the contractor. In this case, reasonable judgment was used to design the retaining walls based on soil borings. When the soils were exposed, the soils were different than the soil borings had shown. This was an unforeseen change to the contractor based on unknown soil conditions. Therefore, no penalties will be imposed. Thanks for the patience, Chad Millner, City Engineer.

4klues asked 8 months agoPlease continue to review the news feed for updates. As reported, the installation of two retaining walls along the north side of 50th Street was delayed. The soils were different then the soil borings indicated. The contractor and engineers have determined a H-pile wall should work. This operation will be loud. This work requires large equipment that needs all of the westbound lanes to operate. After the walls are installed, the remaining concrete curb & gutter, sidewalk and street pavements will be installed. Unfortunately this delay pushes the completion date of the project back to late September. We continue to push operations so the new street can opened to traffic as soon as safe. Thanks

Katie McShane asked 11 months agoThanks for the note. Monday was the first day of the closure and adjustments to signage to better inform the public are happening. The first week of any road closure is the worst. The project will take most of the summer to complete. It is updating underground water, sanitary sewer, and storm sewer pipes, installing wide sidewalks, medians and a new traffic signal. These surface improvements will improve the safety for all users. Sorry for the inconvenience.
