This project, scheduled for construction in 2024, includes:

  • Complete reconstruction of the asphalt pavement,
  • Complete reconstruction of the concrete pavement with asphalt pavement,
  • Full installation or replacement of concrete curb and gutter,
  • Complete replacement of the majority of the watermain and water services,
  • Improvements to the sanitary sewer and storm sewer systems,
  • Complete replacement of the street lighting system, and
  • Construction of a concrete sidewalk along Barrie Road and a portion of West 65th Street and Heritage Drive to complete gaps in the pedestrian network.
  • A preliminary assessment amount of $950.00 per multi-family residential unit (condominium or apartment owner), was approved by the Council at the December 2023 public hearing. This $950.00 per REU amount has been recorded with Hennepin County as pending assessments for all impacted properties.

    • The Contractor will continue watermain improvements into the week of 7/29.
    • Short-term water shut offs related to watermain work are anticipated. Look out for emails and notifications from property managers with details.


    Heritage Drive

    • Installation of concrete driveway aprons and sidewalk is scheduled to occur during the week of 7/29.


    W. 65th Street

    Barrie Road

    • CenterPoint Energy has completed all the gas improvements within the project area.


    US Internet Fiber Optic Installation

    US Internet is installing fiber optic lines in the City right of way. Completion is expected this summer.     Barrie Road

    • Water shut offs will continue into the week of 7/15. These water shut offs are necessary to switch properties over to temporary water service. Property managers have been notified when the water shut off is occurring. Please contact your property manager about when the water shut off is occurring.
    • The contractor will continue working at night and early morning into the week of 7/15 to work on water services.
    • We understand that night work can be disruptive, and we sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. The decision to carry out these tasks during the night was made to ensure that there are fewer interruptions to the water supply during critical daytime needs, allowing residents, businesses, and essential services with larger volumes to continue with their daytime activities without disruption.

    • Water shut offs will occur starting the week of 7/8. These water shut offs are necessary to switch properties over to temporary water service. Affected properties have started to be notified when the water shut off is occurring.
    • The contractor will be working at night the week of 7/8 to work on water services.

    A utility pole on Heritage Drive has been accidentally damaged due to construction. Xcel Energy is on site to repair, check their outage map for updates. Heritage Drive between Barrie Road and York Avenue will reopen when the repair is complete.

    Thank you for your patience enduring the delays and inconvenience this week during the pavement removal of Barrie Road. Due to the roadway and utility construction, the street lights have been turn off. The new street lights will be installed later this summer.

    • The intersection of Barrie Road and Heritage Drive will be closed periodically during the day for storm sewer installation.

    • The Contractor has switched over all new property service lines to the new watermain.
    • Storm sewer installation will continue into the week of 7/1. Expect some closures and delays at the Heritage Drive and Barrie Road intersection. Please avoid this intersection.
    • Roadway excavation will begin on 6/28 starting near Xerxes Avenue. Expect short-term delays during this work.


    W. 65th Street

    • While the street is gravel, it is open to vehicular traffic. Please drive slowly.

    The gas main on Barrie Road has been accidentally damaged due to construction. If you smell gas, open your windows to ventilate until the gas main can be repaired. The Edina Fire Department is on site as a precaution until the damage can be repaired. Any questions after working regular office hours, call 952-826-1600.
