August 14, 2025 Update

Remember businesses are open and accessible. Please be patient when walking, biking, or driving in the area.
Between August 20 to August 22, Grange Road north of the Highway 100 exit and 50th Street between Grange Road and Eden Avenue will be closed. This closure is needed for installation of a new watermain pipe under Highway 100. This new watermain pipe with create a more redundant watermain system for drinking water and fire suppression. The closure is needed to lay the new pipe over Grange Road and along 50th Street. A large machine has been drilling under the highway to create a hole to pull the new pipe back underground to the west side of the highway. Please note that the north driveway of City Hall will also be closed. Access to Dale Rd will be provided along 50th Street from Eden Avenue.
The developer at 5100 Eden Avenue is starting work soon. Starting the week of August 18, they will begin installing a temporary sidewalk along the west side of Arcadia Ave from Eden Ave to the crosswalk at Vernon Shops. This will support a sidewalk detour. Jersey barriers and fencing will also be installed around the property.
Please be aware students go back to school on August 25. This will increase traffic during drop-off and pick-up times in the Grandview Area extending along the Highway 100 frontage roads to Benton Avenue. Take extra time and be patient. It will be congested.
Either September 8 or 15, the contractor will close the remaining off-ramps from Highway 100. This would include the exit ramp from northbound Highway 100 to Grange Road and the exist ramp from southbound Highway 100 to Arcadia Avenue. The project team is developing new maps and communications for this traffic change. This is expected to last until mid-November.
As reported with the June 26, 2025 Project Update, an Xcel Energy power line is in a different location than expected within the CPKC Railroad right-of-way. The power line needs to be relocated before the foundation for the west side of the Vernon Avenue Bridge can be built. The current agreements between the parties are outdated and neither party will work until the necessary agreements and permits are secured. Agreements and permits have not yet been approved. No work has started on the west bridge abutments for the Vernon Avenue Bridge. This will have unknown schedule and / or cost implications. We’ve heard that approvals of agreements and permits are close to complete. Until the parties have agreements, permits, and a schedule for relocation, the project team can’t provide more details.
Thanks for the continued patience with this project, Chad Millner, City Engineer.
