There are construction barriers up along all of the new sidewalks that have been there since the road opened in November. The sidewalk is closed because of "missing handrail". When will this be corrected and the barriers removed?

Old Fuss n Feathers asked 11 days ago

Thanks for the question. That is the case. The sidewalks have been closed until the railings can be installed. Railings have a very long lead time. They don't start fabrication until all the walls are complete to ensure proper fit. They are tentatively scheduled for install early June. Thanks

Is Blake Road open from Minnetonka Blvd to 50th street

    Muriel asked 5 months ago

Blake Road and Interlachen Blvd from Excelsior Blvd to Vernon / 50th is currently open. Blake Road from Interlachen to the south should be open by the end of the week. Thanks

Is there a plan to open Interlachen Blvd to the land bridge for through traffic back into parkwood knolls? Seems like this could be done soon and before completion of the full opening of Blake road south of the land bridge….

Tony Smith asked 7 months ago

Potentially. Concrete walls, curb and gutter and street paving need to be completed before it is safe for the traveling public. If we can get that area completed to a point that is safe prior to the rest of the project, we would consider opening. Those items will most likely be constructed with the other areas of the project. Thanks.

Hi. Is there a way to request the contractor NOT spray herbicide or weed killer on the grass replanted in front of our house? Thx.

    LJD asked 8 months ago

Please call or email Chad Millner (952.826.0318 or cmillner@edinamn.gov) to discuss. Thanks

Are we to expect any other work on the grass that was “planted”? I have mostly weeds growing as do most of my neighbors. Asking because if this is it I plan tilling the entire area and starting over. Thank you

    Swells asked 8 months ago

The contractor is required to grow grass. Typically they do herbicide treatments to knock down the weeds when the grass can handle it. If residents want to supplement and assist with working and watering new grass, that is more than welcomed. If you decide to start over yourself, please let us know so we don't impact your work. Thanks

Is Blake Road open yet between Interlachen and Excelsior Blvd.? Or is the detour still in effect?

    Suennen asked 8 months ago

Blake Road / Interlachen is open from Hopkins to the Grandview Area. There are some detour signs up because it is not open south of Mirror Lake. We will have the contractor review traffic control signs to see if some can be removed. Thanks

It's almost early August. How close is the project to completion? After this project , will you leave the road as-is for awhile so residents can use it? Thank you!

    AKaminsen asked 9 months ago

Phase 1 of 2023 is getting very close. The first two layers of street pavement are being placed Monday and Tuesday this week. Before we open to traffic, we will complete the restoration, street signs, and final layer of street paving. Its trending towards week of August 14 or 21 to open Blake and Interlachen north of Mirror Lake. Thanks for the patience. It was not the intent to reconstruct this street over 2-years.

Thanks for your response below. The multiple explosions are definitely not fireworks. They are far louder and more powerful with visible fire that lights up the entire sky at night. Much louder than a cannon ball or an airplane engine or a sonic boom, there is no mistaking them for fireworks. Given all of the explosive materials laying around the construction site that would not be a great place to set off fireworks. Staff may not have records but they were already aware each time when I mentioned the explosions to them the following morning, so it's in your archives somewhere. Just wondering if they ever got to the cause or if they found much damage to the project or equipment. It must be either a gas line explosion or related to one of the many oxygen or propane tanks they have around on site. It has happened several times.

    Boom asked 9 months ago

Thanks for the details. We will continue to investigate.

Any word on the cause of a few recent late night explosions at the construction site, or damages?

    Boom asked 9 months ago

Staff has no record of those events. I know near my house, fireworks are being set-off at all hours and all days of the week. If this continues, please call or email. Thanks

It is great to see the street and sidewalk progress so far. What are the plans to add back in landscaping and greenery? It was so leafy and shaded prior to the construction... and now looks very cementy and steel heavy. Do you have a mock up of plans?

    Lauren asked 9 months ago

Thanks for the question. The project will plant approximately 230 trees and nearly 400 perennials. Planting in 2023 Phase 1 will start in a week or so. We do not have a mock up of the plans but the planting plans are in the document area of this project. Thanks
