Braemar Arena Project Passes Budget Milestone

September 8, 2026

The Braemar Arena Upgrades and Expansion Project reached a key milestone last week when the City Council approved a $33.2 million Guaranteed Maximum Price (GMP) for Knutson Construction Services who will serve as the project’s primary purchasing agent.

Under the Construction Manager at Risk (CMAR) delivery model, Knutson manages the bidding process, separates labor from materials, and establishes a capped GMP for the planned improvements.

“Establishing the GMP locks us into the largest portion of our overall project budget, and we are thrilled to hit this milestone,” said Braemar Arena General Manager Jesse Buchholz.

The $45.2 million expansion will add a fourth indoor ice sheet, a central corridor connecting all rinks, and a second lobby to relieve congestion. Additional upgrades include:

  • Expanded gathering spaces and modernized restrooms
  • Upgraded locker rooms and improved spectator seating
  • Enhanced accessibility features throughout the facility
  • Modernized refrigeration and HVAC systems

The project is part of the Braemar Park Master Plan and is funded through the City's local option sales tax approved by voters.
