Council Approved Playground Purchase

October 13, 2026

City Council approved request for purchase for Tingdale Playground Equipment on October 6th.

Community engagement for the project was conducted through the Better Together Edina site, which included two surveys and resident feedback. The first survey gathered 76 responses to gauge user preferences, and the results informed a request for proposal (RFP) from vendors. Popular features identified included swings, slides, climbing elements, and monkey bars, which were incorporated into design proposals. Seven vendors responded to the RFP with their designs.

Staff evaluated the submissions based on city goals and features identified in the initial survey. A second survey was conducted with four vendor designs being ranked to determine the preferred design and color preferences. Based on 174 responses to the second survey, staff recommends Minnesota Playground (MWP Recreation) as the winning designer, incorporating Gametime equipment. The selected design complies with modern guidelines and ADA standards, with a color scheme of forest green, brown, and beige.

Tingdale Park Playground Layout

The proposed playground utilizes a nature-themed design that blends climbing, sliding, swinging, spinning, sensory play, and fitness-based activities throughout the site. The layout includes a primary play structure with interconnected decks, crawl tubes, climbers, activity panels, transfer systems, and an enclosed slide system. Additional independent play events such as the Zero-G spinner, ADA-accessible swings, and fitness-style climbing components create multiple activity zones while maintaining clear circulation and safety surfacing throughout the playground. The design accommodates a wide range of ages and abilities, encourages exploration and movement, and provides balanced opportunities for active, social, imaginative, and inclusive play.
