Project Summary

About the Project

Yorktown Park is going through its Master Plan process. Located at 7335 York Avenue S, in the Promenade neighborhood bordering Richfield, it is one of Edina's smallest parks at 3.42 Acres. Named after the subdivision it was located in, the park is categorized as a Special Use Park because of the existing community gardens and Skate Park. The park was created in 1973 in partnership with Edina and Richfield's Park Boards and the subdivision's contractor. It was designed for summer activities on the Edina side and winter activities on the Richfield side. Historically, the park has included a playground (Richfield side), tennis courts, a dugout and diamond field and trails and connecting pathways.

Fire Station 2 was built in Yorktown Park in 1988 and demolished in 2026. With the relocation of Fire Station 2, this small area park requires a study to set a vision and determine future needs.

This study will evaluate the park's existing features, including the skate park, community gardens and regional trail link. The City will work with Three Rivers Park District and the City of Richfield to plan for trail needs and connections to Adams Hill Park.

This park currently contains:

  • Trail and connections to regional infrastructure (built in 1970s and 2011 Promenade expansion)
  • A working well and a planned water treatment plant
  • A skate park (built in 2003, closed in 2018)
  • A 55-plot community garden (built in 2013)
  • A 42-stall parking lot

A Master Plan will guide the future of Yorktown Park, and the City of Edina wants to hear from park users and neighbors. Take the survey and follow this page for updates to stay involved.

In developing the Master Plan, many factors and views will be considered including:

  • Accessibility, inclusion and equity
  • Health and wellness opportunities
  • How the park is used today and which features are valued
  • Maintenance needs
  • Connections to the neighborhood and regional trails
  • Transportation
  • Sustainability

The planning process includes these steps:

  1. Evaluate neighborhood and user needs
    • First survey (fall 2026)
  2. Evaluate site needs and connections
    • Analyze the site
    • Review the park against the City's Strategic Park Plan
  3. Develop park goals through community workshops
  4. Gather community feedback on goals and features
  5. Present Master Plan recommendation to City Council
  6. Plan phasing and financing capital improvements
  7. Secure funding
  8. Implement the plan
