This page is intended to collect public input on Certificate of Appropriateness (COA) applications that are to be heard by the Heritage Preservation Commission (HPC). Comments submitted will provide feedback to the HPC to be considered. Each page includes the information that was submitted by the applicant.     March HPC Submittal

    This item was continued to the March HPC meeting. The applicant agreed to come back to the HPC with updated elevations that reflected comments from the HPC. 

    A certificate of appropriateness was denied by the HPC for a new detached garage at 4909 Bruce Avenue at the December 13, 2022 meeting. The applicant took feedback from the HPC and redesigned two options for the proposed new roof on a new detached garage .

    This item was continued to the January 9th HPC meeting.

    Staff was notified that the as-built elevations of the project at 4510 Sunnyside Road do not match the plans previously approved with the original certificate of appropriateness. The property owner was notified, and are requesting the HPC approve the elevations as built. The change from the original COA elevations is to the second floor dormer. The second floor dormer/gable was shown much larger on the plans previously approved with the COA.

    This COA was denied by the HPC at the December 13, 2022 meeting. 

    4909 Bruce Avenue is located on the east side of Bruce Avenue, north of 50th Street West and south of Country Club Road. The existing home on the lot is a two-story home that was built in 1927. The applicant is requesting a certificate of appropriateness for the demolition and construction of a new detached garage.

    The Heritage Preservation Commission denied this COA request at their August 11th HPC meeting. The applicant has appealed the decision of the HPC to the City Council. This item will be heard at the October 6th City Council meeting. The Council will take action on the item at the October 18th City Council meeting.

    This item was continued from July to the August 11th meeting of the Heritage Preservation Commission.  

    4633 Arden Avenue is located on the east side of Arden Avenue, just north of Country Club Road. The existing home on the subject property was built in 1938 and is identified as an example of English Cottage Style but classified as an American Colonial Cottage in the Country Club National Register Nomination documents. The application includes updated building materials due to the exterior brick being removed from the house, and the addition of a new second story window.

    The proposed garage was approved by the HPC at the July meeting. The proposed overhang was continued to the August 11th meeting of the Heritage Preservation Commission.

The applicant is requesting a certificate of appropriateness for the construction of a new detached garage and an front door overhang on the street facing façade.

    4506 Sunnyside Road is located on the north side of the intersection of Sunnyside Road and Moorland Avenue. The existing two story house was built in 1942. The applicant is requesting a COA to convert a portion of the existing detached garage into living space with an addition above and the construction of a new detached garage.

    The special meeting on June 2nd has been cancelled. This item will be on the agenda of the next regular HPC meeting, Tuesday, June 14th. 


    4630 Drexel Avenue is located on the north west corner of Drexel Avenue and Country Club Road. The home, built in 1924, is a Mediterranean style.  A COA was approved September 8, 2020 and the project is currently under construction. The original COA was approved with a condition stating asphalt roofing is not an allowable roofing material. The applicant submitted a request to amend the COA to change the proposed roofing material to Camelot black roof shingles. 

    The chimney at 4630 Drexel was removed due to life safety issues and was ordered by the City's Building Official. The applicant is proposing to replace the chimney by constructing the new chimney with framing materials and finish it with stucco and stone to match the original structure.
