Southdale B Neighborhood Roadway Reconstruction

The City has accepted the sod in the project area. Property owners are now responsible for watering and care of your new sod. The Contractor will no longer water the sod. This notification was emailed to property owners with further instructions.

To help the new sod take root and stay healthy, your assistance is needed.

• We recommend giving your lawn one inch of water per week, spread out over three watering applications (one-third inch during each application).
• Lighter waterings are not desirable, as they encourage shallow roots instead of deep roots.
• Lawns need deep roots to help them withstand periods of little or no rain.
• The roots of new sod require about one year to reach their full length.
• Set the mower deck at the highest setting and cut the new sod with this setting for the first year. Your new sod will die if you cut it at the same setting as the one you ordinarily use to cut your mature lawn and the City will not replace it.
• Healthy grass height for established lawns is around three inches.

The Southdale B Street Reconstruction project is substantially complete. The contractor will address the following remaining items in the summer of 2025 as part of final completion.

• Roadway striping on W 65th Street and Barrie Road.
• Watering of sod on W 65th Street will continue for a short period. Following acceptance of the sod in fall 2025, property owners will be responsible for the new sod.
• Remaining Irrigation repairs as needed.
• Warranty repairs (2025/2026)

• Streetlight installation, retaining wall installation, and topsoil installation will continue into the week of 6/2.

• Construction is scheduled to conclude by the end of June.

Barrie Road and Heritage Drive

• Cracked sidewalk panels will be removed and replaced the week of 6/2.

• There will be another W 65th Street closure in June when the final layer of asphalt paving occurs.

W. 65th Street

• Paving the first layer of asphalt is complete.
• Irrigation repairs and streetlight and retaining wall installations are scheduled to begin the week of 5/26. Topsoil and sod will follow after this work is complete, and the final layer of asphalt will follow the topsoil and sod work.
• Construction is scheduled to conclude by the end of June.

Metro Transit

• Route 578 bus service to and from Downtown Minneapolis has resumed on Barrie Road and Heritage Drive.
  • Please note that southbound buses coming from Downtown Minneapolis will NOT be servicing stops on Drew Ave and W 65th Street due to construction on W 65th Street.

Construction on W 65^th Street and Barrie Road is scheduled to resume on Monday, 4/14 and be substantially completed by 6/30. The W 65th Street work will begin with asphalt pavement removal, followed by sanitary sewer improvements.

• This project is NOT part of the City’s Southdale B road reconstruction project on W 65^th Street.
• The bus station construction is scheduled to be completed by the end of June 2025.
