Construction Update – 7/3/2024

Traffic Update

• Expect short term delays driving on Heritage Drive between Xerxes Avenue and Barrie Road. Please plan your trips to account for these short-term delays.
• Excessive vehicle speeds are prevalent in the project area, so please slow down. We encourage safety for both you AND the construction crew.

Barrie Road

• Water shut offs will occur starting the week of 7/8. These water shut offs are necessary to switch properties over to temporary water service. Affected properties have started to be notified when the water shut off is occurring.
• The contractor will be working at night the week of 7/8 to work on water services.
• We understand that night work can be disruptive, and we sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. The decision to carry out these tasks during the night was made to ensure that there are fewer interruptions to the water supply during critical daytime needs, allowing residents, businesses, and essential services with larger volumes to continue with their daytime activities without disruption.

Heritage Drive

• Roadway excavation will continue the week of 7/8. Expect short-term delays during this work.
• Concrete curb and driveway aprons are scheduled to be poured the week of 7/8.

W. 65^th Street

• While the street is gravel, it is open to vehicular traffic. Please drive slowly.
• Xcel Energy’s relocation of their facilities has been delayed. Sorry for the delay.

CenterPoint Energy

• Michels continues gas related improvements, which is scheduled to conclude early July. Removal of the old gas main is scheduled to conclude late July.

A utility pole on Heritage Drive has been accidentally damaged due to construction. Xcel Energy is on site to repair, check their outage map for updates. Heritage Drive between Barrie Road and York Avenue will reopen when the repair is complete.

Thank you for your patience enduring the delays and inconvenience this week during the pavement removal of Barrie Road. Due to the roadway and utility construction, the street lights have been turn off. The new street lights will be installed later this summer.

• Roadway pavement removal is complete.
• Temporary water set up continues. Once complete, short-term water shut offs will be required to switch over to temporary water. These shut offs will occur in early July, and you will be notified when they occur.

Heritage Drive

• The Contractor has switched over all new property service lines to the new watermain.
• Storm sewer installation will continue into the week of 7/1. Expect some closures and delays at the Heritage Drive and Barrie Road intersection. Please avoid this intersection.
• Roadway excavation will begin on 6/28 starting near Xerxes Avenue. Expect short-term delays during this work.

W. 65^th Street

• While the street is gravel, it is open to vehicular traffic. Please drive slowly.
• Xcel Energy’s relocation of their facilities has been delayed. Sorry for the delay.

CenterPoint Energy

• Michels continues gas related improvements, which is scheduled to conclude early July. Removal of the old gas main is scheduled to conclude late July.

The gas main on Barrie Road has been accidentally damaged due to construction. If you smell gas, open your windows to ventilate until the gas main can be repaired. The Edina Fire Department is on site as a precaution until the damage can be repaired. Any questions after working regular office hours, call 952-826-1600.

• The Contractor will begin to connect property service lines to the new watermain starting the week of 6/24. This will require a short-term water shut off. Notifications will be communicated to properties about when water shut offs will occur.
• Storm sewer installation will occur the week of 6/24. Except some closures and delays at the Heritage Drive and Barrie Road intersection. Please use alternate travel routes.

CenterPoint Energy

• CenterPoint Energy is scheduled to begin gas main and service replacement work on 5/20.
• CenterPoint Energy’s work is expected to take 3-4 weeks.
• This work is not part of the City’s Southdale B Neighborhood Road Reconstruction contract.

Heritage Drive and W 65^th Street

• Curb and driveways removals will finish the week of 5/20.
• Temporary water setup began and will continue the week of 5/20.
• Water shut offs are necessary to switch over to temporary water and will occur the week of 5/27. You will receive notice with details during the week of 5/27.

Barrie Road

• Roadway and driveway removals will begin the week of 5/20. Vehicles may use the gravel roads and driveway entrances as you typically would.
• Please do not park on the street during working hours. You may get towed. This will give the contractor the proper space to do work. Thank you for your cooperation.

Metro Transit has announced all bus stops within the project area will be closed during the road construction project. Here is the rider alert they have issued for Route 578:

Temporary stop on Southdale Mall service road & 66th St (northbound)

For southbound Route 578 get on/off buses at:

Northbound buses will travel regular route departing Southdale Mall to 66th St, right on 66th St, left on York Ave which becomes Xerxes Ave to Heritage Dr, and resume regular route.

Southbound buses will travel regular route on Xerxes Ave to Heritage Dr, continue on Xerxes which becomes York Ave to 66th St, right on 66th St, left into Southdale Mall, and resume regular route.
