West 42^nd Street, Morningside Road, Grimes Avenue south of Morningside Road

Supplemental turf restoration work is scheduled to begin as soon as 6/26, weather permitting, including:

• If necessary, topsoil will be added to fill in low spots.
• Seeding and hydromulch
• Watering
• Tips for growing green grass can be found here.

The City will continue working with the contractor this summer to ensure the City’s specifications are met, including proper turf growth without significant weeds.

As necessary following turf restoration, herbicide may be applied to resolve weed issues in the City right of way in front of your home.

Thank you for your patience as we navigate the extremely wet start to the spring and summer.

The Contractor resumed work in May and is scheduled to conclude by the end of June.

Turf restoration was scheduled to begin the week of 5/20, but the location where the contractor purchases topsoil is exposed to weather and is wet from rain. Topsoil needs to be loose and friable during placement. Otherwise, it clumps together and increases the risk of over compaction, minimizing the seed’s ability to properly germinate. The project is now considered substantially complete. The contractor will address the following remaining items in the spring of 2024.

• Sanitary sewer lining (winter)
• Remaining Irrigation repairs
• Topsoil regrading, seeding and hydromulch touch ups as necessary. The seeded areas will be monitored throughout the spring to ensure proper turf establishment.
• Replacement tree and landscape plantings.
• Warranty repairs

The sidewalk snow and ice removal is the responsibility of the property owner.

• The final layer of asphalt pavement is complete.

Project Wide

• Select pavement striping and permanent signs are scheduled to be installed the week of 11/13.
• Sanitary sewer lining is scheduled to be completed after Thanksgiving.
• Replacement of landscaping items impacted by construction is complete except for a few properties.

• The final layer of asphalt at the intersections will occur on 11/3.
• The final layer of asphalt is scheduled to be completed mid-week the week of 11/6.

  • The asphalt can be driven on following final compaction rolling.

Assessment Update

On Tuesday, October 3, the City Council tabled the special assessments until October 2024. No payments will be due until October 2024.
