Morningside D & E Neighborhood Roadway Reconstruction updates will be hosted on this project page. Check back for updates!

This project began construction in 2022 and will continue in 2023. The work includes:

  • Complete reconstruction of the asphalt pavement,
  • Full replacement of concrete curb and gutter and sidewalk,
  • Replacement of fire hydrants and watermain gate valves. The project will also include new water services between the main in the street and the property’s shut-off valve (curb stop),
  • Improvements to the sanitary sewer and storm sewer systems, including flood risk reduction improvements, and
  • Assessments to property owners for the roadway project costs, at $8,338.95 per residential equivalent unit

    W. 42nd Street

    • To avoid the hot summer temperatures, seeding will begin in August. Likewise, new topsoil will be placed in August prior to seeding to minimize weed growth.

    Morningside Road, Grimes Avenue between Morningside Rd and W. 44th St

    • The first layer of asphalt paving is complete. Final layer of asphalt tentatively scheduled for end of August.
    • To avoid the hot summer temperatures, seeding will begin in August. Likewise, new topsoil will be placed in August prior to seeding to minimize weed growth.


    Remainder of the project area

    • Please contact Nina if your irrigation system has not been restored.
    • Retaining wall installations will continue the week of 7/17.
    • The City is aware that the boulevards have weeds. The contractor is responsible for resolving the weed issue and for the subsequent re-seeding. Property owners are not responsible to remove the weeds at this point, but we encourage residents to mow the weeds down.     • Concrete work is complete.

    Morningside Road, Grimes Avenue between Morningside Rd and W. 44th St

    • Concrete curb and gutter and sidewalk work is complete.
    • Final roadway gravel grading will continue through 7/7.
    • The first layer of asphalt paving is tentatively scheduled for 7/10.
    • Check your front door for notifications on parking locations during paving.
    • To avoid the hot summer temperatures, seeding will begin in August. Likewise, new topsoil will be placed in August prior to seeding to minimize weed growth.


    Remainder of the project area

    • The irrigation contractor will be back on site to continue restoring systems the week of 7/10. Please contact Nina if your system has not been restored.

    • Concrete curb and gutter, sidewalk, and driveway work to begin following roadway excavation and gravel installation activities.



    Grimes Avenue between West 44th Street and Morningside Road

    • Deep storm sewer improvements are complete.
    • Watermain and service related work is scheduled to continue the week of 5/29.
    • Check your front door daily for more information regarding driveway access loss, and parking requirements.
    • Sump drain installation will occur following completion of the watermain improvements.
    • Roadway excavation and gravel installation is scheduled to occur in early June after the utility work is complete.
    • Concrete curb and gutter, sidewalk, and driveway work to begin following roadway excavation and gravel installation activities.

    • The irrigation contractor resumed restoring systems within all phases of the project completed last year. Please contact Nina if your system has not been restored.
    • Topsoil and seed re-work occurred in most of the areas where paving has been completed.

    • Concrete curb and gutter, driveway aprons and concrete driveways are complete with exception of the few small locations.
    • Concrete sidewalk is complete except for the block between Kipling Ave and Grimes Ave, as well as several intersection tie-ins. This work will be completed within a few weeks.
    • Asphalt paving is tentatively scheduled to begin June 1.


    Morningside Road between Crocker Ave and Grimes Ave

    • Deep storm sewer work is complete.
    • Watermain improvements are scheduled to begin the week of 5/22, with water service work to follow.
    • Roadway excavation and gravel installation is scheduled to occur in June after the utility work is complete.


    Grimes Avenue between Branson Street and Morningside Road

    • The contractor will begin the deep storm sewer on Grimes Ave early during the week of 5/22 and likely will conclude by 5/26.
    • Check your front door daily for more information regarding driveway access loss, and parking requirements.
    • Watermain related work is scheduled to begin at the end of May.
    • Roadway excavation and gravel installation is scheduled to occur in June after the utility work is complete.


    Grimes Avenue between West 44th and Branson Streets

    • Water service replacements are scheduled to begin late May.


    Remainder of the project area

    • The irrigation contractor resumed restoring systems on Oakdale Ave and Branson St and will continue restoring systems in the remainder of the project area.
    • Topsoil and seed re-work will begin the week of 5/22 starting with the areas with completed irrigation.

    • Concrete sidewalk installation will continue after the apron and driveway work concludes.


    Morningside Road between Oakdale and Lynn Avenues

    • Roadway excavation and preparation for concrete curb and gutter began.
    • Expect short term roadway and driveway access loss during the day while this work is occurring.


    Morningside Road between Crocker and Grimes Avenues, Grimes Avenue between Branson Street and Morningside Road

    • The contractor began the deep storm sewer on Morningside Rd, and will continue to Grimes Ave. This work is anticipated to last approximately 2 weeks.
    • Check your front door daily for more information regarding driveway access loss, and parking requirements.
    • Watermain work is scheduled to begin at the end of May
    • Roadway excavation and gravel installation is scheduled to occur in June after the utility work is complete.


    Grimes Avenue between West 44th and Branson Streets

    • Water service work is scheduled to begin mid to late May.

    • The irrigation contractor is scheduled to be on site beginning the week of 5/15 to restore irrigation systems.
    • Topsoil and seed re-work will begin after the irrigation systems are repaired.
